The Iliniza is an ancient volcano to the south of Quito which split into 2 separate peaks over 5000 years ago. This tour climbs the northern peak which reaches an altitude of 5,126m. Illiniza Norte is a moderate trek with an exhilarating but easy scramble to reach the top. It offers superb views of the mighty Cotopaxi and surrounding volcanoes. This climb is perfect for acclimatization and for those aspiring to climb Cotopaxi.
The climb takes approx. 6 hours going up to a height of 5126m. It is important that you are prepared for this kind of altitude, we recommend acclimatizing at least two days around 3000m.
The weather in the area is very unpredictable and you must be prepared with warm clothing.
