This hotel on the beach near Puerto Rico is unusually, but appropriately, in the form of a boat. This eye-catching structure has been constructed entirely from wood, with a restaurant downstairs, and hammocks for relaxing and enjoying the sea view on the top “deck”.

Several bamboo cabins surround the boat, scattered around the little gardens, full of tropical plants including coconut palms and bananas. La Barquita is child-friendly; there is a small play area for children with swings and a paddling pool, and the welcoming Swiss owner has young children of his own.

This is the ideal spot for long horserides along the beach, and La Barquita can arrange for horse rentals from the local community.

There is no charge for children under the age of two.
Children aged form 7-12 pay $7.

No required minimum stay

All cabins, and the "boat", have been built from natural, sustainable wood and bamboo. The owners have also reforested much of the surrounding area.

Herbs, plantain, bananas and coconuts are grown in the gardens around the Hostel, and are used in La Barquita´s restaurant.

Energy-saving bulbs are used where possible.

La Barquita rents horses from the local community for horseriding tours.
Most of the staff are local.
