Built in 2002 by a local artist known as "El Coyote", La Guarida del Coyote (the Home of the Coyote) is a maze of natural swimming pools, streams, relaxing terraces and flourishing gardens on a hilltop overlooking the town of El Chaco.

The rooms have Ecuadorian landscapes and wildlife painted onto the walls, and lead onto balconies and terraces with gorgeous views across the deep green slopes of the Cayambe Coca Ecological Reserve. For an even more impressive view, guests can climb to the terrace high above the restaurant, overlooking the town and the sub-tropical scenery. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner at a cost of $3, and in the evenings, local musicians play Andean folk music on traditional instruments.

There is an outdoor swimming pool with waterslides, fed by a stream so that the chlorine-free water is constantly replenished, and a smaller, covered pool which is being turned into a hydromassage pool.
La Guarida del Coyote is a member of the local Chaco Ñambi tourism group, and can arrange birdwatching, rafting, hiking and tubing tours in the surrounding area and in the Cayambe Coca Ecological Reserve. Visits to local communities can also be organized.

La Guarida del Coyote is a member of the local tourism group Chaco Ñambi, which is made up of local accommodations, tour operators, guides and private landowners. Chaco Ñambi works with Rainforest Alliance in order to develop more sustainable practices, and is working towards being RA certified.

Chaco Ñambi works with local communities, who provide food and guiding services, as well as the use of trails which cross their land.
