Mantaraya Lodge

Leer esto en Español

High on a cliff above the fishing town of Puerto López, with exquisite views over the tranquil Pacific Ocean and surrounding forests, Mantaraya Lodge is the perfect place to relax and get away from it all.

Built in Mediterranean style, this cheerful blue and yellow complex has a pool and plenty of shaded terraces for sipping an ice cold drink and contemplating the views.

The spacious rooms, scattered thoughout the gardens, all have terraces or balconies with seating areas and fans, while cable TV and internet are available in the lounge. The restaurant serves a selection of traditional dishes, with plenty of fresh fish dishes. Guests can choose to dine by the pool or indoors.

The Lodge belongs to Advantage Travel, who can organize tours throughout the nearby Machalilla National Park, including day trips to la Isla de la Plata, a haven for seabirds including the blue-footed booby.

Overview Sustainable and Green Practices

All organic waste is recycled, either through local pig farms and haciendas, or as compost for the Lodge's gardens. Plastic, glass and metal waste is separated and taken to the recycling center in Puerto López. Reusable plastic boxes are used for the packed lunches, and glasses rather than plastic cups are used in the rooms.

All fish, fruit and veg is bought locally wherever possible.

A septic tank processes grey water, which is recycled in the gardens. The Lodge has its own generator, which saves energy.

Biodegradable cleaning products are used thoughout, and the shampoo and soap supplied to guests is also biodegradable. The Lodge´s facilities are often used by groups of students and researchers or foundations.

Mantaraya has reforested part of the area in front of the Lodge, and this area, as well as the gardens, are home to native species of parrots, woodpeckers and tanagers, as well as deer.

How Property Supports Community Tourism

All staff are local, from Puerto López, including the guides. Mantaraya also works with two guides from the community of Agua Blanca, located within Machalilla National Park.
A small souvenir shop sells crafts from the region.
