Runa Tupari means "meeting the indigenous people" in the native Quichua language and is a accommodation experience different from any other. Guests stay in one of Runa Tupari's 14 rural lodges located within communities throughout the Imbabura Province of Ecuador. Visitors have the opportunity to choose from a variety of guided tours around the Cotocachi-Cayapas Ecological Reserve - or simply enjoy the tranquility of the country and the nearness of nature and traditional living. During your stay you will enjoy traditional meals prepared with ancestral crops freshly harvested from the adjacent fields. The opportunity to observe and share in the daily life of the Quichua host families will expand your horizons and make your visit to the communities a unique and unforgettable experience.

Runa Tupari offers a variety of excursions, including treks, community visits, horse-riding, (downhill) biking, Andean climbing and hikes in Intag's Cloud Forest, among many others. All tours are led by knowledgeable and friendly native guides.

Visitors to Runa Tupari can also pick up a variety of fresh, local agricultural products (including Andean blackberries, hot peppers, Cape gooseberries and Andean squash seeds) through Sumak Mikuy, the community-owned business.

Rural development with an intercultural
UNORCAC (an organization representing the rural and indigenous people in the canton of Cotacachi) is an intercultural organization that represents 44 indigenous as well as mestizo and Afro-Ecuadorian rural communities. The objective of the organization is to improve living conditions of its members through development projects and programs such as agro-ecological production, reforestation, environmental conservancy, legal assessment, indigenous healthcare, intercultural bilingual education, cultural revival and rural tourism.

With the objective of creating new jobs in the county and offering an additional service to our clients, Runa Tupari Native Travel has trained 25 native guides who live within the local communities. The Ministry of Tourism, with the approval of the Ministry of the Environment, licenses these guides and thereby guarantees a quality service. The guides' knowledge of the local culture and traditions will give additional value and insight to your visit to the Cotacachi region
